Training and Seminars

.................................................................................................................................................
Leading edge science integrated into world-class business practices to deliver global, effective diversity training
....................................................................................................................................................

Research conducted at Berkeley, Harvard and the University of Minnesota reviewing 30 years of diversity policies in 700 companies shows that most diversity training has little impact on diversity. While many diversity practitionners disagree, we have found out that traditional techniques of diversity management often reinforce differences and stereotypes.  Most diversity trainings, which last for a few hours, are just ineffective to evolve behaviors which are deeply rooted in our cultures and day to day experiences.

This is why, together with Project Implicit, w
e deliver diversity training sessions that integrate years of high level research.
About 35,000 people in different organizations and countries already successfully attended those sessions.

These sessions integrate the IAT, the Implicit Association Test designed by Project Implicit. Because the IAT is unique in providing a direct and palpable experience of bias, the IAT can be a useful tool to instigate the process of change. In fact, one study has shown that those who took the race bias IAT in the context of the judgment of a Black man did reduce their race bias as observed on a subsequent decision about him.

These sessions are delivered into two parts:

  • In the first part, we raise participants' awareness of their own biases with practical illustrations of how our mental processes influence our perceptions of others. Awareness is the first step of bias reduction.
  • In the second part, we outline how participants can change their organization, behaviors and decision making processes to reduce the impact of unconscious bias.
This second part is thus adapted to the role of  participants in their organization.
For senior executives, we outline how they can lead a change management program within their organizations to reduce the impact of biases and better leverage a wider variety of profiles. We also provide them with clear, effective tools to evolve their own decision making processes.
For middle managers, we illustrate how to manage a diverse team and how they can improve their inter- personal skills.

These contents can be delivered both in person with large groups and online, mainly to reinforce the impact of the in-person training.

Once a participant has attended the in-person session, he/she can join a "booster shot" program. This is a client-customized, online program spanning over several months to make the impact of the in-person session "stick". Indeed, we believe that one of the major reason for the ineffectiveness of most diversity training sessions is that they do not last. In contrast, we remain permanently exposed to stereotyped messages in our day-to-day environment whether at work, at home, on the street....

This training program -with both in-person sessions and "booster shots"- progressively and sequentially integrates :

For clients with staff in remote locations - eg petroleum, ...-  we have developed stand alone oneline contents. While we recommend in priority blended in-person and online training for enhanced effectiveness, these oneline contents with the IAT can be effective to evolve behaviors in organizations where moving or reaching staff can be complex.
